Adhesives and Cleaning Products

Adhesives

Your dentures should be specially designed to fit your mouth. They should look good, feel good, and function well. Sometimes however, due to factors such as loss of bone support or dryness of your mouth, you may need denture adhesives to make your dentures more comfortable. Adhesives may aid in the reduction of food traps, plaque, bacteria and help keep your mouth and gums healthy.

Cleansers

Your new dentures should have a highly polished surface. It is extremelyimportant to preserve this polish to help prevent stains, plaque and tartar from accumulating. Unfortunately, the surface polish can be quickly destroyed by some toothpastes and other abrasive materials. However, there are many products available specially formulated to safely and effectively clean your dentures.

Home Care Instructions for Your  Dentures

To Clean:  Remove the  denture   to brush it  with your toothpaste.  Be sure to support the  denture  evenly while brushing.  You do not want to drop it because it may break.  For removal of odor and stains, soak the  denture  in any of the following solutions, and then brush it again with your toothpaste.

  1. ½ vinegar and d1/2 cool tap water for 20 – 30 minutes
  2. 2 tablespoons of baking soda and ½ cup tap water for 20 – 30 minutes
  3. Cool tap water and a denture cleaning solution for 15 minutes

Note: Heat will cause your denture to warp. Therefore, do not use hot water when cleaning the denture. If the water is too hot for your fingers, it is too hot for your denture. Do not leave your denture in a hot car or next to a heater, etc. However, as long as your denture is in position in your mouth, hot food or drink will not damage it.
